So how do we feel about woman portrayal in bl in general.
I go first , I'm seeing a pattern . Some bl mc/ml cheat on their female partner , many female are portrayed as simp and some as homewrecker . I love yaoi , in my xx years of living finding yaoi was my greatest joy but yaoi does have some defects . I thought of this after reading wedding blues.
I wish for more complex or morally gray female characters but after seeing how people talk about the only female character in Unromantic Taxi i rather authors don't add female characters at all. I'm tired of misogynistic ass readers

How do guys feel about people defending stories with "well it's realistic"? I've seen this being said for 2 different stories this week and it's only ever used for like characters being forgiven for bs as soon the story ends.
No like that seriously pisses me off just because it's realistic it does not mean it's good . A story can become good when it has elements which the reader likes . A fantasy story can also be good while not being realistic.and all those people under some bl saying it's realistic pls stop and give another reason. And that's my OPINION
you bring up a very good point, because to me, “realistic” is a claim about the world, not the story. like yes, people forgive terrible things every day. nobody's arguing that. the argument is whether the story got me there, and "realistic" is what people say when it didn't. it defends the event and skips the writing.
if anything it cuts the other way. "realistic" in these threads means "I understand why he'd forgive him." ok, but where did that understanding come from? if the story put it on the page, say what the story did. if it came from knowing how people are, or your own experience, then you did the story's job for it. I don't need a story to tell me that ordinary things happen. I need it to show me this person, forgiving this thing, and what it costs him. that's the part I'm reading for, and that's what's "realistic" for me. i

I don't like it at all... even when a story is trying to be realistic, because it's set in a world that isn't our own, it has implicit rules that aren't exactly like the ones in our world because that world was created by someone and not the big bang lmao
I've read stories where characters behave in ways that are completely bizarre but have one or two moments that the comments would call "realistic", and why do they do that? Because they see our world in the story in that moment. However, that can undercut the sense of world and cohesion that the story had created.
If it has been established that everyone forgives after 2 chapters, then someone needing 20 chapters may be realistic, but at the cost of that story's reality.
If the main character is lucky enough to win the jackpot but they also encounter misfortune in every date then the reader is wiling to suspend their disbelief, there's no need to add something that makes the story "realistic".
I suppose that's the point I was trying to make, "suspension of disbelief" is necessary for one to engage with any story. If your opinion on something that happened is "I don't think that should've happened but I guess it's realistic", then maybe the story is poorly written (as in, that makes sense but shouldn't have happened *like that*) or asking you to suspend your disbelief even further
